Raises, Rights, and Respect

Raises, Rights & Respect: the sentiment behind these words led to the formation of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) District 925. Combining the ideas of the feminist movement with those of the labor movement. In the process, they challenged pre-existing work relationships and achieved notable successes. Utilizing grassroots methods 925 successfully organized thousands of librarians, college and university support staff, day care workers, local government workers and other office, technical and professional employees. Alongside the 9to5 National Association of Working Women, they lobbied for equal pay, affirmative action, child care, office health and safety and against age discrimination and sexual harassment.
