Politics and Public Policy

From its inception, District 925 understood the importance of political power and public policy. Over the years, 925 activists were part of major multifaceted national campaigns, which engaged the public on matters of workplace policy. On issues like family medical leave, civil rights, clean air, comparable worth, racial equity, and protection from health risks like those associated with use of video display terminals, they spearheaded highly public campaigns, with mobilization throughout the labor and women’s movements. Many 925 chapters were active within the broader Commitee on Political Action (C.O.P.E) of the SEIU, which sought to make union members aware of legislation that impacted them and to give training on how best to rally for important causes at the local, state, or federal level.
